Introduction and history

Thank you for locating my blog and for your interest. I notice there are some FFXI blogs out there that for the most part are more entertaining and probably more insightful.

I play FFXI on the Cerberus server until the name "Jeffil". Why this name? At the time I created it, it stood for "Jeff in life", but eh. I wish I chose a better name to be honest :)

I figured I would first tell you a bit about myself and my history with the world of Final Fantasy XI.

I have been a pretty consistent but still off-and-on FFXI player since the game was released in the US. My friend bought it for me as a gift for my 24th birthday in 2004. I started the game and played it for a few months a bit at a time. I enjoyed the feel and died a lot. No biggie. Eventually like other players, I managed to find friends from xp parties, we did missions, we flagged up for leveling, etc.

Once I reached level 30, I immediately wanted to become a Paladin. Of the extra jobs this one stood out to me as very well balanced and I was always impressed when our xp party had a Paladin tank. I also remembered, "level your other jobs to 37 so you can use them as support jobs for your mains". So I stuck Warrior out to 37 and once I dinged it in Garlaige(Garbage), I set off on my quest to become a Paladin.

I literally only played the Paladin job for 2 years while still taking regular breaks from the game from time to time. When I got to around level 58 I was invited to a ToAU party but did not have the expansion. I also did not have the Chains of Promathia expansion. At this point I was hooked on the game.

I played pretty consistently for the 2007-2010 period on the Hades server and joined a Dynamis shell, a Limbus shell, and a Sky shell. This provided me with lots of experience not just on Paladin, but also encouraged me to level other jobs. I started with Warrior to 75, then Black Mage to 75 (although solo on pet mobs - remember that blms?). I joined statics for Nyzul, Einherjar, and even Nation Mission lines. I had a wonderful and exciting time and my favorite memories are from our Sunday morning static that did things like missions, quests, bcs, and the like.

Near the middle of 2009, I joined the HNM LS DaFunk and had a great year with them. I will say though I do not miss camping things and waiting for pop windows.

Hades closed in 2010 and our server merged with Cerberus. Abyssea came out a short time later and I took my first extended break at this point.

I rejoined right when the last Abyssea expansion came out and noticed most of my linkshells went poof except my social shell MXCMercenaries. I jumped in and worked with them in Abyssea and managed to get 90 Almace and 90 Ochain along with leveling Blue Mage to 99 and doing trial weapons. I also got +2 empy armor for all four of my main jobs and again in general had a blast. When Seekers of Adoulin was released, I had to give up the game due to time and job constraints. I still bought the expansion though and played with it for a week or two before my cancellation.

In 2015, I participated in the return home login campaign in November. A good in game friend of mine also partook and we did most of the Rhapsodies of Vana'deil missions through to chapter 3. When I noticed all of the quality of life bonuses you get for doing these, I was hooked again. After the login campaign, I officially resubscribed.

This blog will cover my exploits and goings on in game on Cerberus and my foray through the 2 years of content I had missed since 2013.
